A cord of three strands is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

Last week, we highlighted several date night ideas to help you grow closer together as a couple. This week, we strongly urge you to take advantage of a unique online opportunity to strengthen your marriage. It is a three-part webinar series on couple prayer. And the best part, there is no charge to participate!

It has been said that prayer is the most intimate act in marriage. It is more intimate than the marital embrace. In prayer, we bear our inner most feelings to God and our spouse. There is nothing more powerful in binding a couple together in a life-long marital bond. Find that hard to believe? Let’s look at a couple of research studies on the efficacy of praying together as a couple.

Did you know that couples who pray together are happier, more joy-filled and have stronger relationships? According to noted researcher Rev. Andrew Greeley, “Praying together is the most powerful predictor of marital happiness that researchers have yet discovered.” (Faithful Attraction New York: TOR 1991. 292)

In addition, praying together can help prevent divorce. According to the Retrouvaille International Handbook (2005), “Research has shown that couples who pray or read the Bible together daily and attend Church together weekly have a divorce rate of less than 1 in every 1,105 marriages.”

This free webinar series features Ken and Signe Castel, leaders of the Couple Prayer Series. The webinars will help you experience a deeper love for God and for one another through different ways of praying together. Whether you are newlyweds or celebrating decades of marriage, you can benefit from praying together.

Here are just a few quotes from couples that have participated in the Couple Prayer Series:

“Being able to pray together has changed our lives.”

“It brought us as a couple closer to God and each other.”

“This has truly changed our lives. More to the point, God has changed our lives through the gift of this series. Fantastic. Unbelievably touching.”

“My husband and I found a new intimacy we never knew existed between us.”

“Praying together has given me a peace and love toward my spouse that I will treasure always.”

“Praying together is life-changing. Period. That’s it!”

Hosted by the Archdiocese of Detroit, this three-part webinar series will be held on consecutive Thursdays beginning May 7 at 8:30 p.m. EDT. The topics are:

  • Becoming a Praying Couple – Why & How
  • Uniting Your Prayers of Thanksgiving, Petition, and Intercession
